The Southbend 1182580 Thermocouple is a temperature sensor element that is used in 1970 Series griddles. It has a 24-inch lead and a 20-30 millivolt output which detects the heat of the pilot flame and produces a signal to hold the gas valve open when it is in operation. The thermocouple is placed close to pilot flame, and it is attached to the safety valve. It is a vital safety measure in commercial kitchens, where it can be used to turn off the gas supply in case the flame is lost assisting in the proper ignition and regulated heating in the cooking processes.
