The Tri-Star Mfg 310210 Thermocouple is a flame-detecting component that is used in 1970 Series gas equipment. It produces an electrical signal when subjected to the heat of pilot flame with an 18-inch lead and a 20-30 millivolt output. This is a signal that maintains the gas valve open under normal operation. The thermocouple is placed next to the pilot assembly and is threaded into the connection of the valve. In commercial kitchens it is an essential part of the safety system, preventing the release of unburned gas when using equipment in case the pilot flame is put out.
