The Comstock Castle COMT46 Thermocouple 18 20-30 mV 1980 Series is a flame sensor that is a safety component of commercial gas cooking components. When its sensing tip is heated by the pilot flame, it produces a small electrical signal to allow the control system to establish that a flame is present and control the flow of gas. This thermocouple is fitted in the burner assembly where its tip is open to the pilot flame. Inside the appliance, it is used to facilitate a safe operation whereby the gas supply is only permitted when there is a proper flame.
